Project X Theatre is launching a paid 8-week mentorship program for up to three emerging artists in Kamloops and the surrounding area.
Project X Theatre is privileged to create and perform on the traditional and unceded territories of the Tk'emlúps te Secwe̓pemc.
Through our programming, Project X Theatre promotes and supports the creation, development and awareness of theatre in Kamloops. We involve artists at all points on the career spectrum from emerging artists receiving their first credit, to professionals who are keen to mentor the next generation of theatre practitioners. We strive to create a safe and inclusive space for learning and encourage applicants from equity seeking artists.
Project X Theatre prioritizes the hiring of artists from historically underserved communities or with additional barriers to entering or staying in theatre (this may include BIPOC, Disability, or 2SLGBTQQIA+). Applicants are invited to self-identify as part of their cover letter.
This flexible mentorship program is designed to support the artistic and developmental goals of the applicants. Selected artists will work with Project X Theatre to determine their goals and how Project X Theatre can support their learning. Together, we will determine what type of mentorship works best for the selected artists and find mentors who can help.
Please note that 'emerging' is self-identified. We trust you to make that distinction for yourself, whether that means you're a recent grad or transitioning towards a new specialty.
Project X Theatre will be prioritizing artists who want to find and share their voice in the areas of: playwriting, directing, and design (costume, set, and sound). Artists hoping to develop in other areas are welcome to apply.
The program is intentionally open in order to best address the goals of the selected artist, but some possibilities include:
The ideal candidate is collaborative, committed to developing their voice and perspective, eager to share their ideas, and planning to share their work with communities in Kamloops and the surrounding region.
Fee: Selected artists will be paid $800/week for 8 weeks, which will be spread out throughout the duration of the program.
Timeline: The program will run from June 2022 until August 2023, spanning two summer festival seasons. Selected artists will have the opportunity to engage with TUTT 2022 and 2023 and/or will be able to develop work on their own timeline.
A possible breakdown by weeks could be:
Interested applicants should email their cover letter and resume to Randi at randi@projectxtheatre.ca by July 8th, 2022. Cover letters should outline the applicant’s artistic goals, how they imagine Project X Theatre support, and their practice (as applicable) in BC's Interior. In lieu of a cover letter, we will also accept a 2-3 minute long video addressing the same topics.
The second stage of the application process will involve conversations to ensure that Project X Theatre has the capacity to meet the applicant's artistic goals
