Munsch Ado About Nothing is for our younger audience members, ages 3+. It runs approximately 60 minutes, with no intermission. Content warning: potty humour.
Treasure Island is best for ages 6+. It runs approximately 120 minutes, with an intermission. Content warning: make-believe violence and death, the sudden appearance of a skeleton, threats towards a youth.
Babies are welcome, but all children 18 months and up must be ticketed. If you are bringing a baby, please check in with front of house staff. The festival gates are left open to accommodate parents that need to take young people to the washroom or for a short break from the show.
For detailed information about what to expect at Theatre Under the Trees 2024, please check out our Access Guide HERE.
Munsch Ado About Nothing has 11am, 5pm, and 7pm showtimes. Treasure Island 7pm showtimes. Both shows have a 2pm matinee during the festival.
For other early shows, keep an eye on our schedule for showtimes for The Rivertown Players, who will be performing on the Theatre Under the Trees stage.
Theatre Under the Trees takes place at Prince Charles Park, downtown Kamloops. Every year, we build an outdoor venue from the ground up, including the set, backstage, audience seating, and concessions.
Theatre Under the Trees uses the park bathrooms, just across the field from the venue. The bathrooms are left unlocked for us until after the show.
Yes! Our concession has fresh popcorn, candy, water, and more.
Tickets are available online up until 1 hr before showtime. 1 hr before showtime, tickets go on sale in person at the festival gates.
Tickets start at $13 for Children 12 and under.
We try to make ticket prices accessible, so there are many discounted options available, including Early Bird prices (available until June 15th), Both Show discounts, and Family Pack discounts. There are Pay What You Can matinees and Buy One Get One Previews as well. Check out the festival calendar for more information.
Theatre Under the Trees tickets are non-refundable. Please contact us at info@projectxtheatre.ca to discuss exchanging your tickets to a different evening.
After the show, the actors will return to the stage for a 15 minute Q&A session. The audience will be invited to ask their questions about the show, about the process of putting the shows on, or about being theatre artists. This is an opportunity to meet the cast and learn more about how theatre is made!
NEW! Babies are welcome at Theatre Under the Trees. Please note that occassionally our productions make use of loud sounds and music. For a gentler atmosphere and quieter sounds, check out our Relaxed Performances.
Infants under 18 months do not need to be ticketed as long as they can sit on a caregiver's lap. Audience members 18 months and up will need to be ticketed. We ask that caregivers place children under 18 months on their laps in cases when the performance is moved indoors to the Pavilion Theatre, as seating is limited and less flexible indoors.
There is some stroller parking at Prince Charles Park (subject to availability). The stroller parking at the Pavilion is much more limited (also subject to availability).
Please let Theatre Under the Trees front of house staff know that you have an infant with you so that we can accommodate you best and account for you in the case of an emergency.
Relaxed Performances at Theatre Under the Trees are adapted slightly to welcome audience members who would benefit from a more relaxed theatre environment. Depending on the show, this might mean that the sound cues are lower, that getting up and moving around in the audience is welcomed, and that there are fewer audience members to allow for more personal space.
Everyone is welcome at the regular performances as well, and Theatre Under the Trees is already an informal theatre experience. If you have questions, suggestions, or concerns, send us a message at info@projectxtheatre.ca.
Theatre Under the Trees performances take place at Prince Charles Park. We have a wide entrance into the audience seating area, and there is plenty of room in areas with great views for those with mobility requirements. Because the venue is a park, the ground is uneven. The wheelchair accessible washrooms are the park washrooms, with a concrete ramp for access.
If you have questions or would like to request early entrance to accommodate your seating needs, please email info@projectxtheatre.ca.
Our Access Guide has lots more information about what to expect, from buying tickets to getting to the park to seeing the show itself. Content warnings, pictures of what it all looks like, and detailed plot information can also be discovered in the Access Guide.
We have risers for our audience seating, and cushions available at concession. There are blankets on the grass in front of the risers for seating as well.
Audience members are invited to bring their own seat if they require it for accessibility (mobility needs, backpain, etc). It is difficult for us to accommodate a large number of personal lawnchairs because it can be a significant sightline obstruction, so we ask audience members to work with our front of house manager to find a spot that does not obstruct the view of the rest of the audience.
Theatre Under the Trees takes place outdoors so please dress appropriately. The audience seating is partially covered by a tent.
If the weather is not too extreme, the show will go on outdoors. Sometimes, we will take a pause until the weather clears up and we can continue the show. If the weather is too extreme, not letting up and/or dangerous, a show may get cancelled (although this is rare). Vouchers will be given to audience members so they can attend another day.
Refunds will not be given for weather conditions out of our control.
If we are able to predict extreme weather or dangerous levels of smoke pollution on the day of the show, the show will go on indoors! The Pavilion Theatre nearby at 1025 Lorne St is our back up venue. Patrons will be notified no later than 30 minutes before showtime if the show will move to the smoke venue - please keep an eye on the email you used to purchase the tickets.
Refunds will not be given if we decide to move to the indoor venue, but exchanges will be accommodated when possible. Please get in touch with us at info@projectxtheatre.ca before the show in order to arrange an exchange.
This year we are trialing Guaranteed Indoor Showings! Both are on Tuesday, July 16th. Check out the festival calendar for more information.
