Project X was created by Derek Rein and Samantha MacDonald.
Derek was an original founding member of 3 Men of Sin, where he performed in and directed over a dozen productions. He then created a partnership with the Gay & Lesbian Association of Kamloops to produce one of the most talked about theatrical experiences in Kamloops: The Laramie Project. From the beginning, Derek has achieved his goals of presenting challenging, non-traditional theatre to local audiences. Directing credits include: Problem Child, The Soldier Dreams (Project X), In On It, The Laramie Project (GALA), How I Learned to Drive, Kicked (3 Men of Sin). Acting credits include: Suburban Motel, The Tempest, Saucy Fops: The Musical?, Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde.
Samantha’s association with professional theatre spans eighteen years. She has worked as a theatre technician, designer, stage manager, actor and publicist, before finally settling into her favoured role of director. Directing credits include What I Learned At School, Elizabeth Rex, The Tempest, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, (Project X); Lear’s Daughters (3 Men of Sin) and Mr. Charles, Currently of Palm Beach (GALA/Out Of Bounds). Assistant Directing credits include The Last 5 Years, Waiting for Godot, The Attic, The Pearls & Three Fine Girls (Western Canada Theatre), The Laramie Project and In On It (GALA). Samantha is a graduate of the University of Victoria’s Theatre programme.
